[Podcast] Personal Brand Comparison: Late the the race and the lane is crowded – should you even bother to compete?

It’s easy to get caught up in personal brand comparison.

When you’re just getting started  – whether that’s finally putting yourself out there through your writing, launching a new podcast or finally starting your business –  looking at someone else’s success can make you overthink doing the thing you’ve been dreaming of.

You’re at the starting line and looking down the track and can’t imagine crossing the finish line.

You may feel that since someone else is already doing what you want to do, and they’re doing it well, your contribution is pointless.

Not so.

I’ve said before that personal brand comparison is killing your momentum.

Whether your effort yields the same results or better results or bigger results than what others’ efforts did, the exercise of expressing what has been placed inside of you and getting that out into the world is valid and valuable in and of itself.

If there’s a book, business or artistic masterpiece inside of you, how dare you not share it?

Personal Brand Comparison

In this episode of Package Your Genius, I shared:

  • how a recent conversation with a friend made me think deeper about feelings of envy and inadequacy when we compare ourselves to others
  • how looking at the perceived success and traction of others can make you overthink your own contribution
  • how the difference between being an unknown and becoming the next fan favorite could be as simple as getting started
  • how awareness of your brand, book, business, voice can happen overnight but it can’t happen if you don’t get started
  • how to see the success of others as MOTIVATION and proof of what’s possible, instead of seeing it as a reason to scrap your plans
  • how if you have a story (or business, or art project or foundation) inside of you, you owe it to yourself and your Creator to set it free
